Greyson closed his finger in the back door! It was terrible. It hurt him so bad. He sat on the couch with Paul with an ice pack for a long time. I eventually used athletic tape to tape the ice pack on his hand.
For a few days after it happened it looked like he had just skinned it really bad. We kept a band aid on it most of the time. He is at an age where band aids cure all (even when there is no evidence of injury – he wants a band aid). Within about a week the fingernail started raising up and you could tell it was inevitable – the fingernail was coming off.
What is amazing is that it did not hurt from this point on. We went a few days with this nail gradually lifting up. Paul tried to pull it off one night, but Greyson was not ready.
The next day while Greyson and I were home and Paul was at work, Greyson decided it was time for it to come off. He brought me some cuticle clippers and asked me to take it off. I tried for about 2 seconds, but I did not have the heart. It was bothering me much more than it was bothering him. A little while later he came running into the study and informed me that he had pulled it off! I was amazed. He said it did not hurt, but I can’t imagine how it did not hurt.
Here is a picture not long after he pulled it off.
Now we are just waiting to see if it is going to grow back normal. It currently has a big ridge in it…
